Morten Harket is a norwegian musician and composer. He was the singer and frontman of the norwegian pop band a-ha and he released four solo albums, two of them in norwegian.
Harket grew up with three brothers and a sister in Gullhella in Asker/Akershus.
Morten first went to Heggedal school, later the Solvang youth school and then the Askergymnasium.
Due to his religious education he wanted to be a priest. After his high school diploma he started theology studies but then cut that off and accomplished his military service in Kristiansand.
He took his first steps as a singer at "Ten Sing" before he joined the bluesband "Soldier Blue" ind 1975. On september 14th 1982 - it was his 23rd birthday – together with Magne Furuholmen und Paul Waaktaar-Savoy he founded the band a-ha - Norway's most succesful export in the pop-music industry.
As a solo artist he won all four possible awards of the norwegian "Spellmannprisen" with his album "Wild Seed" and the single "A Kind of Christmas Card" in 1995. This included the "Årets spellemann" award, the only one of these awards that's not decided about by an expert jury but by the "spellemannkomitee" itself. It's also regarding the overall appearance of an artist, not just the record sellings.
The other awards were given for "best male artist", "Album of the year" and also the "Song of the year", the latter together with the lyricist of the song, Håvard Rem, with whom he had worked before a lot allready.
Further he won seven more awards "Spellemannsprisen" with a-ha in 1985, 1986 and 1990, what makes a total of 11 awards and him the most succesful artist ever at "Spellemannsprisen".
With a-ha Morten also won an "MTV Video Music Award", a "Bravo Otto" and the "Q-Award".
Morten is also involved in many social projects, such as East Timor.
